Former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio says Brian Ashton must give his players the chance to make amends for their shock defeat to Wales. England coach Ashton was left aghast as his side let slip a 19-6 lead to lose their opening Six Nations match 26-19.
"Knowing the coaches, they'll all be very disappointed, but I hope they don't make rash decisions on selection," Dallaglio told BBC Sport.
"The team deserve the opportunity to put right quite a few wrongs."
Dallaglio was speaking before it was confirmed that Ashton will be without four players through injury for next Sunday's match against Italy in Rome.
Centre Mike Tindall is unlikely to play any further part in the tournament after suffering a bruised liver against Wales, while wing David Strettle (metatarsal) and flankers Lewis Moody (Achilles) and Tom Rees (knee) will miss at least the trip to Rome.

England held a 13-point lead against Wales going into half-time before a number of individual errors let the visitors back into the match
Tries from Lee Byrne and Mike Phillips earned Warren Gatland's men their first win at Twickenham since 1988.
"Whether you're playing at club level or international level you should never let a big lead like that slip," Dallaglio, who retired from international rugby after the 2007 World Cup, told Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme.
"I remember going through a similar experience myself in 1997 when we let a huge lead against France slip and Christophe Lamaison ended up putting the final nail in the coffin with a penalty. So it does happen.

"The important thing is the players have to learn from the mistakes that were made. If it happens again, then there will be some serious questions asked. "But it's still a very disappointing day because to lose the opening game of the Six Nations, having played in it myself, there will be such an anti climax, not only amongst the fans but also amongst the dressing room as well."
Jonny Wilkinson went into the game under pressure from the Wasps fly-half Danny Cipriani for the number 10 jersey, while Iain Balshaw, who was preferred to Mathew Tait at full-back, had a second half to forget.

"There's no doubt that people will ask questions of the half-backs because when a game slips by like that it's always the half-backs who get criticised the most," said Dallaglio. "Jonny will know he didn't play as well as he could've done and he'll be very disappointed, but I expect if he's given the opportunity again he'll bounce back very strongly."
Former England centre Jeremy Guscott believes Wilkinson should remain at fly-half despite calls for Cipriani to be introduced at number 10.
"I was surprised with Jonny - I thought he would take charge when Mike Tindall went off injured but he didn't," Guscott told BBC Sport.
"But I would stick with Jonny at 10. Danny Cipriani needs to be fed in bit by bit.
"I think England need to build on what they did in the first 55 minutes, because they were totally dominant and playing on the front foot.
"They need to work harder in training on finishing off their opportunities."
