Delaney turns focus to EDF Trophy
Rugby union
Nottingham director of rugby Glenn Delaney says the club will now turn their full focus on winning the EDF Energy National Trophy.

Delaney told BBC Radio Nottingham there is little chance of promotion from National One so the cup takes priority.

He said: "We want to win the cup, we want to get to Twickenham. If we achieve that it'll be a great season."

Nottingham's fifth-round tie at home against London Welsh will be played on the weekend of 2/3 February.

Delaney's side are in third spot in the league with 14 wins from 19 games but he accepts leaders Northampton are odds-on favourites to clinch the title.

This cup competition comes at the right time - we're not worried who we draw

"Northampton are a very good side and they'll win the league. That's almost a given," he said.

Nottingham thrashed Newbury 55-24 in the EDF Trophy fourth round and victory over London Welsh will put them in the last eight, just two wins from Twickenham.

"It's an opportunity to win something," Delaney explained. "We've come into a rich vein of form in recent times.

"This cup competition comes at the right time. We're not worried who we draw. We want to make sure that we are back in the hat on the fourth of February and we go into the quarter-finals on the 23rd."
