FULL-TIME: Barbarians 22-5 South Africa
The whistle goes and the Barbarians celebrate a famous win over the world champions. Who says there is no future for the Baa-Baas? The players who wore the shirt today certainly showed plenty of pride and commitment and they totally deserved the victory. For South Africa, a long year has finished and in the end, it was a game too far.

77 mins: Steyn produces a neat grubber into the in-goal area but Shanklin is there to make the ball dead.

75 mins: Martyn Williams, Joe Rokocoko, Jerry Collins and Tom Shanklin are all called upon to show their defensive skills as South Africa pile on the pressure yet again. The Barbarians have only missed five tackles all game so far, absolutely superb.

73 mins: Referee Christophe Berdos is caught in the middle of a Michael Owen/Wynand Olivier sandwich, a sight which entertains the Twickenham crowd. "Swing Low" is heard for the first time, this game is dying out.

69 mins: Troy Flavell is sent to the sin bin for a high tackle on wing Bryan Habana. Habana has a cut mouth but does not make a meal of it although Flavell is yellow-carded anyway.

68 mins: Robinson leaves the field to a standing ovation as he is substituted for South African Peter Grant. Justin Harrison is on hand on the touchline to applaud the winger off the field. A great moment.

65 mins: You have to take your hat off to the Barbarians, they are defending with everything they have to keep the Boks out. They eventually turn the ball over and Giteau clears his lines.

62 mins: South Africa are having plenty of possession but they just cannot burst through the Barbarians defence. I began to lose the will to live when I suspected a Mexican wave breaking out but thankfully that nonsense seems to have ended. Ben Cohen and Michael Owen are now on for the Barbarians and they instantly have to defend as South Africa are camped on their line.

58 mins: Welsh centre Tom Shanklin replaces Conrad Smith. There is not a lot happening on the pitch, the South African players are running out of ideas and the intensity is just not there.

54 mins: It's getting a bit scrappy as the rain continues to fall. It's pretty heavy now and it has definitely taken the sting out of the game.

51 mins: The substitutes are now coming thick and fast. Regan comes off for Schalk Brits while Troy Flavell replaces Brent Cockbain. For South Africa, Ruan Pienaar has moved to scrum-half while Steyn is now at full-back.

47 mins: Wynand Olivier, on for the injured Andre Pretorius in the first half, receives treatment as the rain starts to batter down at Twickenham.

43 mins: South Africa are getting desperate. Steyn attempts a drop goal from far out but it falls just short. The crowd did not like that.

41 mins: TRY Barbarians 22-5 South Africa
What a start to the second period. The Barbarians counter after yet another aimless kick, this time from Steyn. Rocky Elsom is given the freedom of Twickenham and after charging in from a fair distance, the video referee rules that he just got over the line. Giteau adds the extras.

41 mins: Matt Giteau starts the second half for the Barbarians. I have only just got my breath back.

1549: Sorry for not doing this earlier but as promised, here are the team line-ups.

Barbarians: Jason Robinson (England), Joe Rokocoko (Blues & New Zealand), Conrad Smith (Hurricanes & New Zealand), Ma'a Nonu (Hurricanes & New Zealand), Isoa Neivua (Warriors & Fiji), Matt Giteau (Western Force & Australia), Justin Marshall (Ospreys & New Zealand), Federico Pucciarello (Munster & Italy), Mark Regan (captain, Bristol & England), Salesi Ma'afu (Brumbies), Brent Cockbain (Wales), Justin Harrison (Ulster & Australia), Rocky Elsom (Waratahs & Australia), Martyn Williams (Cardiff & Wales), Jerry Collins (Hurricanes & New Zealand).
Replacements: Schalk Brits (Stormers), JD Moller (Stormers), Troy Flavell (Blues & New Zealand), Michael Owen (Dragons & Wales), Tom Shanklin (Cardiff & Wales), Peter Grant (Stormers), Ben Cohen (England)

South Africa: Ruan Pienaar; Akona Ndungane, Jaque Fourie, Francois Steyn, Bryan Habana; Andre Pretorius, Enrico Januarie; CJ Van der Linde, Bismarck Du Plessis, Jannie Du Plessis, Johann Muller (captain), Johan Ackermann, Barend Pieterse, Juan Smith, Ryan Kankowski.
Replacements: Tiaan Liebenberg, Heinke Van Der Merwe, Albert Van Den Berg, Barend Pieterse, Wynand Olivier, Wayne Julies, Conrad Jantjes

HALF-TIME: The whistle goes and a pulsating 40 minutes comes to an end.

40 mins: TRY Barbarians 15-5 South Africa
Robinson embarks on a trademark jinking run after an aimless kick from CJ van der Linde puts South Africa on the defensive. Prop Federico Pucciarello feeds Martyn Williams and the Welsh flanker charges in for a try. Giteau adds the extras.

37 mins: Steyn receives some boos as a drop goal attempt goes wide.

35 mins: TRY Barbarians 8-5 South Africa
Finally South Africa produce some pressure of their own. Steyn's delicate chip to the wing finds Habana and the Boks attack. From a ruck near the line, flanker Barend Pieterse catches a lose ball in the air and like a nimble athlete, dives over the pile of bodies to score in the corner. Steyn misses the conversion.

32 mins: The Barbarians threaten again but Giteau misses an unmarked Robinson on his outside just five metres from the line. It would have been a definite try if the Australian had seen him.

28 mins: Nonu is having a field day. Again he splits the South African defence but he slips at a crucial time. He obviously has a point to prove after missing out on New Zealand's World Cup squad.

26 mins: South Africa centre Francois Steyn loses the ball near the halfway line after a big hit and the Barbarians are off again. Rokocoko slips a deft inside ball to Nonu, who in turn feeds Giteau, and the try is on. Instead of going for the corner, Giteau cuts inside and Habana is able to get back to knock down a pass intended for the supporting Nonu. South Africa are on the ropes at the moment.

18 mins: TRY Barbarians 8-0 South Africa
Habana delivers a poor pass from a Springbok five-metre scrum underneath the posts and they are forced to retreat at pace. Januarie fails to collect the ball as he goes to ground to collect a hack on and the Barbarians counter through Ma'a Nonu. Again the ball is kept alive and it goes through numerous pairs of hands before Rokocoko plays in Giteau who touches down after a nervy juggle on the line. One end of the pitch to the other, wonderful Baa-Baas stuff. Giteau misses the conversion.

17 mins: South Africa are camped on the Barbarians line. There is a bit of silliness between Justin Harrison and CJ van der Linde but the referee soon calms it down.

14 mins: Bok full-back Ruan Pienaar is having a nightmare and thumps a place kick straight into touch. That is the third error he has made already. However, from the line-out number eight Kankowski wins the ball and shows his explosive pace to charge for the corner only for Rokocoko to bundle him into touch near the corner. Great defence.

13 mins: Springbok scrum-half Ricky Januarie makes a break but New Zealand's Jerry Collins, wearing the socks of Barnstaple RFC, stops the attack in its tracks.

8 mins: Rokocoko lifts the Twickenham crowd with a jinking run from deep. The attack is disrupted but the Barbarians go again with a fine attack involving Conrad Smith, Williams and Robinson. That's what the crowd need to see as they as they try and keep warm on a December afternoon.

6 mins: South Africa try and drive through the forwards but Welsh flanker Martyn Williams does some great work on the floor to win the ball back for his side. The Baa-Baas have started well.

3 mins: PENALTY Barbarians 3-0 South Africa
Springbok number eight Ryan Kankowski is offside at a ruck and Regan orders fly-half Matt Giteau to go for the three points. The Australian curves the ball through the posts and the Barbarians lead.

1 min: South African fly-half Andre Pretorius starts the game and Baa-Baas centre Ma'a Nonu makes an early charge.

1459: God Save The Queen is played in recognition of the home stadium. Only three players, Robinson, Regan and replacement wing Ben Cohen sing down the Barbarians line.

1455: Jason Robinson receives a fine welcome as he stands alone in the centre of the Twickenham pitch. A special moment. The teams soon follow him and we are ready for the anthems. It is a fine day in south west London and we should see a fair bit of running rugby. Well here's hoping anyway.

1452: Great bit of news during the week. New Zealand and Barbarians wing Joe Rokocoko has been granted country membership of Blackheath and will wear their socks today. That's what it is all about.

1444: A relaxed Jason Robinson is smiling from ear to ear as he heads back to the dressing room after the last team run throughs on the pitch. Television coverage shows a montage of his career and it sends a shiver down the spine. Boy is he going to be missed.

1438: Jake White is interviewed pitchside and is in reflective mood, hardly surprising really. Last year, White led South Africa to victory over England at Twickenham in a game that kept him in his job and now he says goodbye as a World Cup winner at the same ground. Incredible. In the interview he hints that he could be persuaded to return to South Africa in some capacity - SARFU should jump at the opportunity.

1429: This is the first game Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan has taken charge of since the World Cup shambles in France. Will this be the start of him repairing his reputation as he looks to leading the Lions in 2009?

1424: Just to warn you, this could be the grumpiest text commentary I have done as last night my scooter was nicked from outside my house. It was not a good way to start the weekend I can assure you. Merry bloomin' Christmas.

1417: This game certainly has brought up several talking points. Apart from White and Robinson we have the thorny issue of player release with Baa-Baas skipper Mark Regan defying Bristol orders to turn out for the invitational side - risking disciplinary action when he returns on Monday.

On the other hand, England's wrecking ball prop Andrew Sheridan was told to withdraw from the fixture by his club Sale - who then promptly rested him for the EDF Energy Cup game against Leicester on Friday night.

1411: As the saying goes, a week is a long time in politics - and six minutes is a long time in rugby. No sooner have we told you that Schalk Burger is one of the stars of the South African side than it is announced that he will miss the game with a broken nose, suffered in the win over Wales.

His place in the starting XV goes to Barend Pieterse, with Hilton Lobberts promoted to the bench.

1405: Afternoon all, welcome to commentary on the final international of the year and what a fitting way to finish an incredible 12 months - the newly crowned world champions against the Barbarians at Twickenham.

Although the Springboks are not at full strength, there are plenty of World Cup winners on show - Jaque Fourie, Francois Steyn, Schalk Burger, Bryan Habana and Juan Smith to name but five.

We will say goodbye to Jake White, who is taking charge of his final game as South African coach. I'm still bemused at how he has been treated by the powers that be at home, surely winning the World Cup would give him the job for as long as he wanted it? Obviously not.

England great Jason Robinson is playing his last game on the world stage before retiring and it will be an emotional moment when he leaves the Twickenham pitch for the final time.
