White has been linked to several top jobs in world rugby

The England management set-up and the position of head coach Brian Ashton are being reviewed by Rugby Football Union director of elite rugby Rob Andrew.

"They've been in touch. England are busy with the review process and then they will make a decision," Craig Livingstone told The Sunday Times.

"We've expressed an interest and so have they. We've talked to Rob Andrew."

White led the Springboks to World Cup final glory over England last month.

England's unexpected run to the final was seen as a great success, but coach Ashton has since been criticised by some of his own players, with Lawrence Dallaglio saying the post "demands management skills that Brian does not have".

White announced on Wednesday that he would leave the Springboks in December and accused South Africa of forcing him out of the job after they revealed he was not on a shortlist of four names to fill his own position.

He has since confirmed that he would not be interested in the vacant Australia job, but has not ruled out replacing Gareth Jenkins as Wales coach.

White is due to lead South Africa on their tour of Britain later this month before stepping down.

The Springboks will play Wales on 24 November, before taking on the Barbarians at Twickenham a week later - White's final game in charge.

Soon after arriving back in South Africa with the Webb Ellis trophy, White said: "England is probably one job most international coaches wouldn't mind taking.
