Blair urging Hadden to carry on
Mike Blair promotes a safe driving campaign at Murrayfield
Mike Blair sees Frank Hadden as Scottish rugby's driving force
Mike Blair hopes Frank Hadden will stay on as Scotland coach and build on their solid World Cup showing by inspiring international and club rugby success.

Hadden said after leading Scotland to the quarter-finals in France that he would take a couple of weeks to decide on his own future.

But Edinburgh and Scotland scrum-half Blair told BBC Sport: "All the squad are very keen to work for Frank.

"Hopefully, he will stay on and we can look forward to the Six Nations."

Blair believes he and his international team-mates missed a golden opportunity to make the World Cup semi-finals after defeat by Argentina.

"I think we got to where the supporters expected or hoped we would get," he said.

"But, on reflection, if you look back and see the fixtures that we played, to have to beat Italy and Argentina to get to a World Cup semi-final is definitely achievable.

"It's frustrating as it would have changed a mediocre performance in the World Cup into an outstanding one - but we were not far off doing that."

Blair is pleased with the progress made under Hadden's two-year stewardship.

"The main thing he has brought to the squad is confidence," said the scrum-half.

"He tells us at training sessions and debriefs how good we can be.

"And he talks about being a Scotland supporter first and foremost.

"He obviously has great passion for the Scottish game and wants Scottish rugby to take off, at international level and with Glasgow and Edinburgh."

Blair believes that Scotland will be equally as competitive when the northern hemisphere countries renew their rivalries early next year.

"The Six Nations will be a very even contest," he said.

"Every team can beat every other and that makes it exciting for the supporters, as well as giving us a chance against all the other teams."

Blair is also optimistic about his club future with Edinburgh, former England coach Andy Robinson having taken charge after a summer of upheaval and controversy at the Magners League outfit.

"I had my first training session with Andy yesterday and it was a really good session," he said.

"The guys were enjoying themselves, had smiles on their faces and were learning a lot as well.

"He looks like being a great acquisition."
