Live text on the BBC Sport websiteBobby Skinstad will captain a much-changed South Africa side when they face Tonga in the Group A match in Lens on Saturday.
Springboks coach Jake White has made 11 changes to the side that destroyed England 36-0 in Paris.
Only lock Bakkies Botha, flankers Wickus van Heerden and Danie Rossouw, and winger JP Pietersen are retained.
Skinstad led the Springboks at the 1999 World Cup but missed the 2003 tournament with a broken arm.
Full-back Ruan Pienaar, winger Ashwin Willemse, centres Wynand Olivier and Wayne Julies, fly-half Andre Pretorius and scrum-half Enrico Januarie are the new backs for Saturday's match at the Stade Felix Bollaert.
Props Gurthro Steenkamp and C.J. van der Linde make up a new front row with hooker Gary Botha, while lock Albert van den Berg and Skinstad at number eight are the other changes in the forwards.
Flanker Schalk Burger will serve the second of his two-game ban for his dangerous tackle on Samoa scrum-half Junior Polu in the Springboks' 59-7 win at Parc des Princes on 9 September.
South Africa are well placed to progress through to the quarter-finals, leading Group A with nine points, one more than Tonga, while England have four points.
