Winger Howlett equalled New Zealand's Test tries record |
Coach Graham Henry hailed New Zealand's 76-14 rout of Italy as they opened their World Cup campaign in style. But with easy-looking pool games against Portugal, Scotland and Romania to come, Henry fears his side won't be stretched before the quarter-finals.
"It's something we must consider. I hope the Scots field a strong team and give us a good game," Henry said.
"Portugal and Romania will want to play the All Blacks but we'll need a good think through for those games."
Henry added: "We're obviously pleased and satisfied with the performance especially, in our first game.

"We made very good decisions with the ball but it was a much more competitive out there than the scoreline suggests."
Italy coach Pierre Berbizier rued his side's horrendous start, which saw them 17-0 down after just 11 minutes.
"We didn't have the right mental attitude for the game," said the Frenchman.
"There was a difference between a great All Black team that knew how to get straight into the competition and an Italy team that discovered the level needed to play here.
"At no point were we really in the game. They exploited our weaknesses and that's how good teams play. It was a great experience but it showed our shortcomings.
"We didn't become involved in the match in the first quarter and at no point were we really in the game.
"The All Blacks were aware of this and capitalised on our weak points. That's how great teams play.
Graham Henry and Richie McCaw reflect on New Zealand's win |
Italy skipper Marco Bortalami said his side had been overawed by their opponents.
"It was clear there was a mental problem," he said. "Our play was too passive. You are never afraid on a rugby pitch, but maybe we showed New Zealand too much respect."
The All Blacks scored 11 tries in total through Richie McCaw (2), Doug Howlett (3) Mils Muliaina, Sitiveni Sivivatu (2), Chris Jack, Jerry Collins (2).
A further 17 points came from the boot of Dan Carter and six from Luke McAlister.
Henry added: "We got a lot out of this game and it proved that we were right not to overdo it before coming here."
All Blacks Skipper Richie McCaw added: "The first half was one of the better halves we've played this year."
