Eden Park, Auckland
Tri-Nations and Bledisloe Cup decider
ALL THE ACTION (times in BST)
80 mins: FULL-TIME New Zealand 26-12 Australia
No great euphoria from the All Blacks. It's a sense of relief at wrapping up a professional win so they will go into the World Cup with the Tri-Nations and the Bledisloe Cup in the trophy cabinet. Will the William Webb Ellis trophy be alongside them come October? You can follow every match from France - plus Wales and Scotland - here on the BBC Sport website.
"Putting some cups in the cabinet is pretty satisfying."
All Black skipper Richie McCaw
"In big matches little things let you down and that happened tonight." Australian captain Stirling Mortlock
79 mins: Promising from Australia in the backs before a prop gets in the way. Matt Dunning slows the whole thing down and goes into contact. If Stirling Mortlock had any hair he'd be pulling it out. Turnover and New Zealand clear.
78 mins: New Zealand's defence is holding firm as the game peters out.
77 mins: Nick Evans overcooks a touch finder which means Australia have a platform in NZ territory. But it's not really deep enough to launch a raid for the home line, which has not been in danger of being crossed all match.
76 mins: Australia can't create anything here.
75 mins: More changes. Nick Evans on at full-back for the ABs. Mils Muliaina goes to centre in place of Isaia Toeava. Scott Staniforth replaces Matt Giteau for the visitors.
74 mins: Welcome to the game Adam Freier. The hooker is on for Stephen Moore and gets a thumping hit from Rodney So'oialo.
72 mins: PENALTY New Zealand 26-12 Australia
Australia's eager defence is caught offside and Dan Carter gives New Zealand the cushion of a 14-point lead. The visitors need two converted tries to level things, which would be good enough to win the Bledisloe Cup.
70 mins: All New Zealand. This is a test for the Australian defence but they are up to it so far.
68 mins: Stirling Mortlock slows All Black progress when he races out of defence to nail Luke McAlister. The hosts keep the ball alive but Joe Rokocoko cannot find a way through Mark Gerrard.
67 mins: Australia fail to make the most of that, New Zealand win the lineout and break at pace.
66 mins: Jerry Collins on the charge from his own 22 and that gets the crowd going. Great effort from Collins, but to no avail. Chris Latham arrows a kick deep back into NZ territory.
64 mins: Aussie prop Matt Dunning's mouthing off at referee Nigel Owens again at the injustice of a scrum decision going against him. Nothing wrong with the call. The Australian's just not up to it and needs to keep schtum.
63 mins: Poor hands from George Smith off a lineout. A knock-on and it is New Zealand ball. Things feel a bit flat. After a tense hour there is daylight between the teams and you get the sense the Kiwis in the crowd are thinking where they can go in down town Auckland to celebrate.
62 mins: A Dan Carter up-and-under causes panic in the Aussie ranks. Not a promising sign that they can mount a comeback. Reinforcements are called on in the Wallaby back-row. On come Phil Waugh and Hugh McMeniman. Rocky Elsom and Stephen Hoiles make way.
60 mins: That could be the game breaker.
59 mins: TRY New Zealand 23-12 Australia
The verdict goes the way of Tony Woodcock. It is his second Test try and his second of the season. Despite his best efforts Chris Latham was unable to hold the bullocking prop up at the corner. Dan Carter misses from the touchline. It is the first missed kick of the night.
58 mins: Brendon Leonard goes blind off the back of the scrum. The scrum-half is scragged before the pack pile in. Tony Woodcock picks and goes for the corner. The prop thinks he's got over the line. Nigel Owens is not sure and the TMO is called on again.
56 mins: Scrum time for New Zealand and the pack will have their back up for this one. Five metres out. A first dig stops and they get a second put-in. And a third. An Australian wheel, a bit of slipping and they go down for number four.
55 mins: It's darker than Harry Potter's Deathly Hallow in there - whatever that is - and that's the verdict of the TMO. "It was inconclusive," says South African Johann Meuwesen.
54 mins: Replacement Brendon Leonard breaks and this is the best chance of a try we have seen all night. Four phases. Five phases. New Zealand are a metre from the line. Kevan Mealamu charges for the line by the post and the decision goes upstairs.
52 mins: The crowd are going bananas as New Zealand break unaware that Nigel Owens has called play back for a knock-on. "It's a close call" he says in those dulcit Welsh tones... and another wrong one. It came off Richie McCaw's head.
50 mins: PENALTY New Zealand 18-12 Australia
The kicking has been excellent. Another Dan Carter effort glides between the sticks after Nigel Owens speaks to the two skippers about the discipline levels falling off.
49 mins: An exasperated "Come on" from referee Nigel Owens as Australia kill the ball in New Zealand territory. The All Blacks run from distance but Doug Howlett is hooked into touch by Stirling Mortlock. The Wallaby skipper is upset at the call that it was a high tackle. Harsh on the centre.
47 mins: Anton Oliver and Byron Kelleher have played their last rugby on New Zealand soil in an All Black jersey. They are replaced by Kevan Mealamu and Brendon Leonard.
46 mins: PENALTY New Zealand 15-12 Australia
Stirling Mortlock reduces the gap to three points again.
45 mins: A harsh call and a wrong call from Nigel Owens, who has had a good game to date. He pings Luke McAlister after George Gregan breaks. McAlister is stunned and rightly so. Dan Carter was the man in the way, and then only just.
44 mins: Here comes Chris Latham, but Adam Ashley-Cooper gets a stay of execution. He goes to the wing in place of Drew Mitchell with Latham, back after knee reconstruction, stepping in at full-back. A canny kick from the re-start along the ground causes no end of trouble for New Zealand.
43 mins: PENALTY New Zealand 15-9 Australia
Dan Carter makes it five from five when another penalty decision goes for New Zealand.
42 mins: First scrum after the break and it is a penalty to New Zealand as Australia's front row messes up the engagement. Matt Dunning roars an expletive at the decision and Rodney So'oialo taps and goes instead of giving Dan Carter the kick at goal.
0931 BST: The action resumes.
0930 BST: The players are back out. The ball is in Stephen Larkham's hands and Chris Latham is warming up on the touchline. Adam Ashley-Cooper could soon be hooked from the action. A John Connolly rollicking's probably still ringing in his ears after that mistake before the break.
40 mins: HALF-TIME New Zealand 12-9 Australia
There goes the hooter. The weather has put paid to a feast of running rugby, but it has helped create an intriguing challenge which looks set to go the distance.
39 mins: PENALTY New Zealand 12-9 Australia
The personification of cool and calm, Dan Carter gives the All Blacks the lead again with his fourth success off the kicking tee.
38 mins: But it is New Zealand who end the half on the front foot. Adam Ashley-Copper shows sloppy footwork in attempting to stop a Joe Rokocoko kick and only succeeds in pushing the ball into touch. He then compounds the error by throwing the ball away in disgust. Penalty to New Zealand.
37 mins: Mark Gerrard gathers a bouncing ball on the left as Australia look to end the half on the front foot.
35 mins: PENALTY New Zealand 9-9 Australia
Dan Carter steps up and slots the best place-kick of the night - depending where you are - to level things up again.
34 mins: Jerry Collins escapes a high-tackle call on the stooping George Smith before Matt Giteau is spotted in an offside position racing through to gather a Stephen Larkham grubber in midfield as Australia advance. Fair.
33 mins: The Australian scrum may be in trouble, but their lineout is top notch. A third gain against the throw.
32 mins: PENALTY New Zealand 6-9 Australia
Stirling Mortlock makes no mistake right-booted from the left side of the pitch.
31 mins: Australia are building on that Joe Rokocoko error. Nice tight, quick hands and slipped passes see them progress to the 22. Stephen Larkham is in the pocket, George Gregan goes blind and bald, brute Keith Robinson concedes a penalty.
28 mins: Joe Rokocoko shows a gleaming smile despite a ridiculous mistake. He gets in a muddle under a Stephen Larkham bomb and chests it into touch!
27 mins: New Zealand 6-6 Australia
It's a tit-for-tat spell. Stephen Larkham lies all over the ball which gives Dan Carter the chance to square things up. He bisects the posts.
25 mins: DROP-GOAL New Zealand 3-6 Australia
Something from nothing. Matt Giteau snaps at a long-range drop-goal which wibbles and wobbles on a flat trajectory through the posts. Nobody's too sure at first but the TMO Johann Meuwesen gives it the thumbs up. That's the scrum-capped Giteau's first drop in Test rugby.
23 mins: PENALTY New Zealand 3-3 Australia
A good effort from distance by Stirling Mortlock. His place kicking can be shaky at times, but he had the dead eye on that one.
22 mins: What do you know? The Australians are on the turf in a bewildered heap after that latst scrum, but this cloud has a silver lining. Richie McCaw has been pinged for coming off the scrum and it is an Aussie penalty.
21 mins: The New Zealanders have selected eight grifters up front. They have hustled the Australian scrum. After a few easy ones, now the stakes have risen they are ripping though the visitors like a dump truck on full throttle.
19 mins: Adam Ashley-Cooper gathers and the Australian full-back escapes the clutches of Joe Rokocoko before being undone by the referee. He runs straight into Nigel Owens in a crowded midfield.
18 mins: The Australians are proving a handful at the lineout. The All Blacks eventually clear with another turbo-packed kick from Dan Carter.
16 mins: These boys were really on their game in the first 10 minutes but the incessant rain looks to be having more of an impact now. Little slips on the turf are hindering things here and there.
14mins: The Green and Golds look nervy. Poor pass from Matt Giteau and moments later Stephen Larkham makes a right old mess of gathering a bomb. It explodes out of his grasp on the 22. Dan Carter slips as he unleashes a long drop-goal attempt.
13 mins: A needless error from Australian full-back Adam Ashley-Cooper now. He takes the ball into his own 22 before clearing for touch. Spotted by the eagle-eyed touch and the visitors invite more pressure on themselves. They stand firm this time and there is no handbags either.
12 mins: Australia would have wanted to get in front early here. They have not won at Eden Park since 1986. How long ago was that? Madonna was at number one with "Papa Don't Preach". Dan Carter was four years old.
11 mins: PENALTY New Zealand 3-0 Australia
After all that Dan Carter slots the three points with ease from in front of the posts.
10 mins: The hosts are on the charge with the try line in sight and tempers fray. "Five gold" is the man picked out by the touch judge. That's Dan Vickerman to you and me. The usual ticking off from Welsh ref Nigel Owens for a shove on Keith Robinson. The original penalty against Rocky Elsom stands.
8 mins: Good hands from Doug Howlett under a high ball on his 22 and New Zealand return the ball with interest. Dan Carter thunders a left-footed punt downfield and Stephen Larkham makes a hash of keeping it infield. Chance for New Zealand.
7 mins: The sodden halfway line is where this match is being played at the moment. The conditions don't allow for much more to be fair. The quality of close ball retention remains top notch mind.
5 mins: And an excellent Australian scrum. That is their fabled weakness but they drive the All Blacks back at the first time of asking.
4 mins: Good Aussie defence and great spoiling work from George Smith on Byron Kelleher as the AB number nine looks to release his backs. The tenacious Wallaby seven still looks a bit odd shorn of his dreadlocks.
2 mins: After Australia got an early feel of the ball New Zealand are on the march forward.
0835 BST: Dan Carter gets things going.
Teams:New Zealand: Muliaina, Howlett, Toeava, McAlister, Rokocoko, Carter, Kelleher; Woodcock, Oliver, Hayman, Robinson, Jack, Collins, McCaw (capt), So'oialo.
Replacements: Mealamu, Tialata, Thorne, Masoe, Leonard, Mauger, Evans.
Australia: Ashley-Cooper, Mitchell, Mortlock (capt), Giteau, Gerrard, Larkham, Gregan; Dunning, Moore, Shepherdson, Sharpe, Vickerman, Elsom, Smith, Hoiles.
Replacements: Freier, Baxter, McMeniman, Chisholm, Waugh, Staniforth, Latham.
0834 BST: The Australians are taking the sting out of the Haka by taking their time over slipping out of their tracksuits. It will be New Zealand to start once the waiting is over.
0833 BST: The bearded, brooding giant that is Carl Hayman leads the Haka. Choreographed fireworks soar skywards after the All Blacks have finished dancing with menace.
0832 BST: The anthems are done and dusted. This weather really is dire.
0829 BST: The teams are out, racing past the oversized Bledisloe Cup and the more liftable Tri-Nations trophy by the tunnel. Predictable jeers for the visiting Wallabies and a raucous reception for the All Blacks.
0828 BST: And you get the feeling there is a bit more pressure on the All Blacks. They have not hit the heights this season and anything less than a comfortable win could dent confidence going into the World Cup.
0827 BST: The coaches have been ramping this one up. Australia boss John Connolly has said "Bledisloe Cup and Tri-Nations deciders are right up there alongside World Cup finals", while All Black counterpart Graham Henry has called this match "hugely important". Not one for soundbite hyperbole is Henry.
0825 BST: It is 1925 local time in Auckland, the floodlights are on, the heavens have opened and Eden Park is packed to bursting for what should be an absolute belter.
