All Blacks legend Zinzan Brooke is recovering in hospital after suffering head injuries in a fall while in Spain coaching the Barbarians. The 42-year-old, who won 58 caps, had surgery to relieve pressure on the brain caused by a blood clot.
"He got the injury while getting out of a taxi at the hotel in the early hours of Thursday morning," said Barbarians press officer Alan Evans.
"He fell down and hit the back of his head on the ground."
His pregnant wife Alison is at his bedside and his brother Robin told Television New Zealand that the injury was "serious but not life-threatening".
The incident occurred in the town of Elche, 150 miles from Valencia, where he had been coaching the Barbarians.

Brooke played most of his career at number eight and was regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation.
He scored 17 Test tries, a record for a forward, as well as kicking three drop goals, and coached Harlequins after retiring as a player.
