Phil Davies was proud of the Scarlets' play despite the defeat

"I'm disappointed but quite proud, I think we displayed a real quality today which will make people back home proud of us," Davies said.

"But great credit must go to Leicester for the way they played against us.

"We kept going for the whole time but sometimes it wasn't quite good enough towards the end of the game."

The Scarlets overcame a shaky first half to take the lead early after half-time when hooker Matthew Rees barrelled over.

But Leicester retook the advantage within two minutes as fly-half Andy Goode chipped over the Welsh defence to send flanker Shane Jennings in under the posts.

"If we could have consolidated that lead for a bit longer than we did then we could have built more pressure," Davies added.

"We were moving the football around the field very effectively and we were making inroads.

"But Leicester are a smart team and they scored a clinical try that knocked the stuffing out of us a little bit, although we came back at them again."
