Back Morgan Turinui has won 20 caps for Australia |
Australia centre Morgan Turinui is a doubt for the two-Test series against Wales in May and June after damaging knee ligaments in training on Tuesday. The NSW Waratahs back, 25, capped 20 times by the Wallabies, could be out of action for up to six weeks.
Turinui will undergo an MRI scan on Wednesday to assess the full damage.
Waratahs head coach Ewen McKenzie said: "Morgan's leg got stuck in an awkward position and it was immediately clear that he was in trouble."
Turinui will miss the Waratahs' final three matches of the Super 14 campaign and is in danger of missing Australia's first Test of the year against the Welsh on 26 May at the Telstra Stadium in Sydney.
The Wallabies will again face Wales the following week on 2 June at the Suncorp Stadium.
If Turinui recovers on schedule then he could be available for that clash in Brisbane if selected, but he would not be match-fit after his enforced lay-off.
"(Team doctor) Sharron Flahive said the injury was a grade two medial strain that will likely sideline Morgan for the rest of our season," McKenzie added.
