Pelous has not played since being injured against the Scarlets |
France captain Fabien Pelous is in danger of missing the whole of the Six Nations because of the ankle injury which has kept him out since December. The 33-year-old lock, who has won 110 caps for France, has not played since spraining his ankle on 16 December.
"I'm not giving myself any objectives - I want to come back as soon as possible but above all I want to make a good recovery," said Pelous.
"When I'm able to run again, I'll think about playing."
Pelous said he would prefer to remain patient and ensure he was fit for the World Cup rather than rush his recovery.
"I am not projecting forward," he said. "I am proceeding one step at a time."
Pelous sustained the injury playing for Toulouse against the Scarlets in the Heineken Cup.
"I feared most of all that it was a fracture," he said.
"There was none, but I lost sight that it was a very big sprain and that a long recovery period was recommended."
Meanwhile, France will have only two players in action this weekend as the Six Nations takes a break.
Sale hooker Sebastien Bruno is expected to start against Wasps, while his team-mate Sebastien Chabal is set to be on the bench.
The other 35 players, who have been based at France's training headquarters at Marcoussis for the duration of the Six Nations, will rest as the French championship has been stopped until 23 March.
France will face Wales in Paris in their next match on 24 February.
