Hodgson injured his knee against South Africa in November

The 26-year-old fly-half developed symptoms of a viral gastro-enteritis and stayed at home when the squad flew out last Thursday.

Hodgson, who ruptured his cruciate knee ligament in November, is one of three players in the 47-man squad who did not fly to the Algarve.

Mike Tindall (leg) and Julian White (personal reasons) also missed out.

Hodgson's Sale team-mates Jason Robinson and Andrew Sheridan are taking a limited role in training as they continue to recover from injury.

Winger Robinson had knee surgery after the tour of South Africa while Sheridan, like Hodgson, is on the comeback trail after a knee ligament injury.
