Larkham has won 91 caps for Australia

Australia captain George Gregan will miss the tour in order to rest ahead of the 2007 World Cup in France.

"I'm still undecided. I've had a couple of meetings with the coaches and I think there are pros and cons to both sides of the story," said Larkham.

"Certainly if I stay home I will be well rested and it will allow me to make some gains in the gym."

Larkham, 32, has won 91 caps for Australia since making his debut in 1996, scoring 23 tries in the process.

Australia will take a larger than usual squad to Europe, where they will play Tests against Wales, Italy, Ireland and Scotland as part of their preparations for the World Cup.

One of the main issues facing coach John Connolly revolves around who will replace Gregan in the number nine jersey.

Sam Cordingley and Brett Sheehan are seen as the most likely candidates, although Matt Giteau's name has also been thrown into the mix.

The elusive Giteau, 23, normally plays at inside centre and Gregan said he was not happy with the idea of moving him to scrum-half.

"I think he's become world class as a number 12 and I think if you move him a little bit closer he loses a lot of those attributes, because he will get closed down," said Gregan.

"He won't have the time and space to function and be as electric as he is where he is, two passes wider of the ruck.

"Could he cope with it from a skill factor? He could, he's a freak, but I just don't think you'll get the best out of him."
