O'Connor went straight to hospital for a precautionary x-ray |
Wasps flanker Jonny O'Connor has been told he will make a full recovery after suffering spinal concussion during the Powergen Cup final win over Llanelli. The Irishman left the field on a stretcher and was taken to hospital after a heavy tackle from Alix Popham.
He met with medical consultants this week and has made good progress.
However, O'Connor still has swelling and disruption of the neural system in his upper back and is not expected to play again this season.
O'Connor sustained the injury during the first minute of the match at Twickenham when he took the ball into contact with his head down.
Wasps captain Lawrence Dallaglio's first thoughts after the victory were with his team-mate.
O'Connor is expected to return to training with Wasps in time for pre-season, but will miss Ireland's tour to New Zealand and Australia in June.
