Henry aims to guide the Kiwis to a second World Cup win |
New Zealand coach Graham Henry says he will ditch his policy of alternating two Test XVs to focus on preparing one team for next year's World Cup. Recently, Henry has taken advantage of the All Blacks' strength in depth by rotating his players but this will stop on the autumn European tour.
"Developing two teams will not be a major emphasis on the end-of-year tour and next year's Tri-Nations," he said.
Henry wants players to get used to the intensity of playing regular games.
He said he wanted to ensure players' recovery times after matches were up to the standard needed at next year's tournament in France.
"It takes a long time to recover and we want to make sure we are doing it right and that we've trialled it before the World Cup. So we will play some players three games in a row," he said.
Centre Aaron Mauger, who has played as part of three different midfield pairings this season, said the new approach would help players develop better understandings.
"It helps your performance and gives you confidence in the guys around you," he said.
"You get consistency in combinations."
New Zealand's next game is in the Tri-Nations, against Australia on Saturday.
Victory at Eden Park, where they are unbeaten against the Wallabies since 1986, will see them win the tournament.
