Fran Cotton will leave his posts at the end of the season |
Former Lions manager Fran Cotton has resigned from his posts with the Rugby Football Union and leaves this summer. The former England prop served as a representative on the International Rugby Board and also an IRB representative on the RFU Council.
"It has been a privilege to work with the RFU in a variety of capacities over the last nine years," Cotton said.
"However, I have found it increasingly difficult to balance business and RFU related interests in the last year."
Cotton managed the 1997 Lions tour and was described by RFU president Malcolm Phillips as "one of the icons of the game".
Phillips added: "Fran has been a dedicated servant to rugby union through a successful playing career, his management of the Lions and as an administrator.
"His work at all levels has been invaluable."
