Italy coach Pierre Berbizier enjoyed a victory in his first game on home soil as his side thrashed Tonga.

Italy built on a fine back-line showing to run in seven tries, with captain Marco Bortolami scoring twice early on.

Winger Mirco Bergamasco added a third try before the break but it was only a temporary respite as Gonzalo Canale touched down before a Josh Sole brace.

Bergamasco grabbed his second try close to full-time while fly-half Ramiro Pez scored five conversions and a penalty.
