Rugby Football Union chief executive Francis Baron has backed the idea of moving the Six Nations towards the end of the season. Independent consultants have been called in to draw up proposals to solve the continual club v country problem.
The report is expected to be ready by next month and Baron has urged all parties to be "flexible" about change.
"The Six Nations could move a bit later and I don't think that would affect the commercial value at all," he said.
The Six Nations is currently played in February and March but the suggestion is to move it to April and May, after the end of the domestic season, and run it straight into the summer tours.
"We are prepared to look at all the options. We are being more positive and open about the need for change than some of our friends in the other northern hemisphere nations. "It seems to us there is some possibility of moving things at the margin," added Baron.
"There are scenarios whereby moving those international windows (for autumn Tests and the Six Nations) a bit, you can ease the international-versus-club conflict.
"If we can get to that position, it will be a big plus."
