Northampton continued their fine start to the season with a comprehensive bonus-point win over Harlequins.

It was the home side who took an early lead through Will Greenwood's try but they never threatened again as Saints scored four first-half tries.

Mark Tucker crossed on 46 minutes to make the score 34-8 while Darren Fox's 73rd-minute try sealed the win.

Saints try-scorer John Rudd was sin-binned for a high tackle on Ugo Monye, who claimed a late Quins consolation.

Northampton are now top of the fledging Zurich Premiership table after their second bonus-point win in as many weeks.

They recovered well from their opening setback with a penalty from Paul Grayson before Grant Seely, Johnny Howard, Ben Cohen and Rudd all crossed to claim the bonus point before half-time.

We have a lot of work to do

Northampton could have carved out an even greater lead but Steve Thompson and Cohen had tries ruled out.

The scoring spree was only interrupted by a penalty from Quins fly-half Andy Dunne halfway through the first half.

Although the second half was affected by numerous substitutions, Saints were always in control and Tucker and Fox were able to complete an impressive win.

Harlequins coach Mark Evans admitted his side were not at their best, saying: "We have a lot of work to do.

"We have a lot of things to fix and we have to rediscover the cussedness and hard-nosed edge that we had last year which got us through a lot of very close games."

For Saints coach Alan Solomons, the key to the win was the performance of the forwards.

"The whole pack played well from Tom Smith through to the number eight," he said.

"It makes it a lot easier for the back three if the front five are doing the business."
