Defending champions Auckland were beaten 44-27 by 2001 champions ACT in their opening match of the Super 12. The sides were locked at 27-27 after an hour before a try from Australia hooker Jeremy Paul put the Brumbies in front.
Matt Giteau sealed victory with the fifth ACT try, after earlier scores from Owen Finegan, Stirling Mortlock and Stephen Larkham.
Rupeni Caucaunibuca, Carlos Spencer and Keven Mealamu scored tries for the Blues, with Spencer kicking 12 points.
Earlier, the New South Wales Waratahs gained revenge over the Canterbury Crusaders with a stunning 43-19 win in Christchurch.
The Crusaders, beaten finalists last year, trounced the Waratahs 96-19 on their last visit to the Jade Stadium two years ago.
But NSW ran in four tries through Nathan Grey, Mat Rogers, Tim Donnelly and Milton Thaiday.
"The 2002 result wasn't so good, so it was good to bury a few demons out there," said captain Chris Whitaker.
Two Daniel Carter peanlties put the Crusaders in front but a try from Rogers - who also kicked four conversions and five penalties for a 28-point haul - and a second score from Grey gave the visitors a 17-9 half-time lead.
Donnelly and Thaiday brought up the bonus point before Richie McCaw's late consolation try.
Elsewhere on Saturday, the Waikato Chiefs edged out the Wellington Hurricanes 19-7.
The Chiefs scored 13 points against the wind in the second half to overturn the Hurricanes' 7-6 half-time lead.
Queensland Reds, were thrashed 39-8 by the Otago Highlanders on Friday.
Otago ran in five tries to secure a bonus point with lock Filipo Levi (2), Aisea Tuilevu, Josh Blackie and Sam Harding all going over.
Fly-half Tony Brown kicked three conversions and two penalties.
The Reds' consolation try came from replacement hooker Sean Hardman while Elton Flatley kicked a penalty.
In South Africa, the Stormers defeated the Cats 28-23.
