Pat Lam has been named as the new coach of Auckland, a post he will hold for the next two seasons. The former Samoan captain, who has been working as Scotland's assistant coach, takes over from Wayne Pivac.
Pivac led Auckland to two successive National Provincial Championship titles in New Zealand.
Former loose forward Lam played for North Harbour in the NPC before moving to England, where he wore the colours of Northampton and Newcastle.
Auckland chief executive David White praised Lam's outstanding technical and tactical appreciation of the game, as well as his highlighting his global standing.
"Pat has first hand knowledge of the traditions and expectations that are associated with [Auckland] rugby having played five seasons for the NPC team from 1990-1994," White said.
Lam's leadership credentials are second to none. He captain Samoa for five years and skippered both Northampton and Newcastle.
