Three tries from Ryan Constable helped Ulster rout Edinburgh in Friday's Celtic League game at Meadowbank.
The first quarter was scrappy but once Ulster got into their stride, there was never any doubt that they were going to claim their fifth straight win in the competition.
With Tyrone Howe and James Topping also scoring tries, Alan Solomons' side also picked up a valuable bonus point which now leaves them two points ahead at the top of the Celtic League.
The opening exchanges were even enough and Edinburgh fly-half Alistair Warnock missed two kickable penalties which would have given his team an early cushion.
The first score didn't come until the 22nd minute when Adam Larkin slotted a penalty for the visitors.
Ulster's Tyrone Howe and Edinburgh full-back Derrick Lee were then sinbinned in the 30th minute after getting involved in some off-the-ball stuff.
The visitors struck a crucial blow three minutes into first half injury-time when Constable completed a flowing move to score the first try. Larkin's conversion left Ulster 10-0 ahead at the break.
Lee finally opened Edinburgh's account eight minutes into the second half from a penalty.
James Topping also notched an Ulster try |
However, any prospect of an Edinburgh comeback was ended when Howe notched Ulster's second try in the 55th minute after scrum-half Kieran Campbell had made a break.
Larkin converted to put Ulster 14 points ahead.
The Edinburgh defence was torn apart again in the 64th minute with Constable touching down after more great work by scrum-half Campbell.
James Topping's 69th minute try ensured Ulster's bonus point with Larkin once again successful with the conversion.
Constable completed his hat-trick six minutes from the end of normal time against a static Edinburgh defence.
Larkin's kicking excellence on the night was maintained by his injury-time penalty which extended Ulster's margin to a whopping 38 points.
