New South Wales' Rocky Elsom was named man-of-the-match
New South Wales moved to the top of the Super 12 table on Saturday with a 26-16 win over South Africa's Bulls.

Man of the match Rocky Elsom scored the Waratahs' only try of the first half just before the interval to give the home side a 7-3 half-time lead.

Brendan Cannon and rugby league convert Nathan Blacklock added further scores in the second half as New South Wales opened up a 19-9 lead.

Substitute Morgan Turinui then crossed with 10 minutes left on the clock to ensure the bonus point for scoring four tries.

The win moved the Waratahs into a three-way tie at the top of the Super 12 table, level with Auckland and Canterbury.

In Saturday's other match, Otago's unbeaten run was ended in a 33-12 defeat by the Golden Cats.

In a match watched by the New Zealand cricket team, the Cats dominated the second half after the first period had ended with just four points separating the two sides.

On Friday, defending champions Canterbury Crusaders bounced back from defeat against Auckland to record a 36-29 win over the Waikato Chiefs.

The Crusaders also picked up a bonus point for scoring four tries while the Chiefs bagged a consolation point for losing by seven points.

The sides were level at 9-9 just before halftime after Daniel Carter and David Hill exchanged penalties.

But a try for flanker Ritchie McCaw immediately before the break and another to wing Caleb Ralph immediately after gave the Crusaders a 21-9 lead.

The Chiefs fought back with a try for centre Regan King, which was converted by Hill, before Nathan Mauger restored the Crusaders' lead with their third try.

Hooker Corey Flynn added a fourth touchdown to ensure the bonus point.

Glen Jackson then kicked two penalties for the Chiefs, who reduced the gap late on when Isaac Boss went over.

Wallaby winger Joe Roff scored three tries as the ACT Brumbies beat South Africa's Western Stormers 37-22.

Roff, who spent last season with French club Biarritz, grabbed two tries just before half-time and crossed for his last just before the end.

Flankers Tamaiti Horua and George Smith also scored tries to secure ACT a much-needed bonus point.

In Friday's other game the Wellington Hurricanes enjoyed a successful trip to South Africa as they beat the Coastal Sharks 35-20.
