Leinster flying high

Leinster continued their dream start to the Celtic League season with an eight-try demolition of Ebbw Vale at Donnybrook on Tuesday night.

They pulverised their Welsh opponents and were in the driving seat for almost the entire match just four days after they had overcome Llanelli at Stradey Park.

Centre Adam Magro and full-back Girvan Dempsey each went over for a brace of tries, while second row Trevor Brennan was the man of the match for his towering performance in the set-pieces.

Full-back Gareth Cull gave Ebbw Vale the lead after just five minutes with a well struck penalty.

But Magro, with the first of his two tries, took the Irish provincial side into the lead and after that there was only going to be one outcome.

Further tries came from Dempsey (two), Simon Keogh, another from Magro, Denis Hickie, Nathan Spooner and Eric Miller.

Scott Mitchell went over for Vale's consolation try.

It really was a champagne display by Leinster, who are giving the rest of the Celtic League something to think about.

Leinster were ahead 31-6 at half-time and were good value for that advantage.

They looked sharp in the set-pieces and produced some clever breaks, continually threatening the visitors' try-line.

Spooner had a great game, collecting a personal tally of 18 points with a try, five conversions and a penalty.

Leinster: Tries: Dempsey 2, Keogh, Magro 2, D. Hickie, Spooner, Miller. Cons: Spooner 5, Dunne. Pen: Spooner.
