The prospects of such a match taking place on the Lions tour of Australia this summer are unrealistic. However, senior Super 12 players from each of the nations have said they would support the establishment of an annual showdown between the northern and southern hemispheres. Current Wallaby captain John Eales said he loved the idea, which was first suggested by former Wallaby captain Michael Lynagh.
All Black full-back Christian Cullen said he also liked the idea of linking up with the best Wallabies and Springboks. "I think it would be great. In Britain they keep talking about how they could come here and beat all these teams," he said. "So why don't we put a side together? You would only need a week or so together. It would be awesome if they could find the right time to play it." Springbok wing Breyton Paulse echoed the sentiments of his fellow southern hemisphere stars. "It's definitely worth a look at. It would be fantastic coming together to play." | See also: Other top Rugby Union stories: Links to top Rugby Union stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||
