Wigan chairman Maurice Lindsay has revealed that a recent tentative approach to takeover the engage Super League club has come to nothing. "If there was real interest it has not materialised into any form of offer," admitted Lindsay in a club statement issued on Thursday.
"(Owner) Dave Whelan did receive an initial expression of interest and he was very open and honest about that.
"Time has revealed there was little prospect of a real offer being tabled."
Lindsay said he needed to "clear the air" so the injury-hit club could get on with turning round their season.
"We are having a difficult season because of our injuries and it certainly wasn't helpful to have to deal with rumours such as these which turned out to have no real support," he said
"We will now get on with the business of planning for next season. When trying to sign players they need to know what is the future of the club and we are now able to give them the re-assurance they seek."
