Gregory 'still in charge'
By Dave Woods

Mike Gregory
Denis Betts says coach Mike Gregory is still pulling the strings at Wigan despite suffering from a debilitating bacterial infection.

"He's had a little muscle wastage but he is still sharp as a tack," said assistant coach Betts.

"He is still coaching the team and doing all the things we have been doing for the last few months.

"Nothing has changed in the way we go about our job. We've been working through this for quite some time."

Gregory will travel to America for treatment after next month's Challenge Cup final against St Helens.

The players care for him a lot, not just as a coach but because he's a fantastic human being

The infection was caused by an insect bite sustained on the Great Britain Academy side's tour to Australasia and South Africa.

Betts added: "Mike's a fantastic bloke and everyone feels for him. It's not something you would wish on anyone.

"The players care for him a lot, not just as a coach but because he's a fantastic human being."
