Wigan are set to decide on the future of coach Mike Gregory in the next 10 days - and he looks set to leave. The former Great Britain star, who has been on sick leave since May, has been suffering from a muscle-wasting disease that required treatment in America.
Warriors owner Dave Whelan told the Wigan Observer newspaper: "We have to look at his ability to cope with the stresses of being Wigan coach."
Stand-in boss Denis Betts seems set to be officially appointed in his place.
"Whatever decision we make will be in the best interests of the club," Whelan added.
"The club has supported Mike fully since the illness was diagnosed. This whole episode has been very sad and our thoughts are with Mike totally.
"Myself and Maurice Lindsay are meeting with him in the next 10 days to make a decision on his future."
A benefit match between Wigan and Warrington will take place early next year with all the proceeds going to the 40-year-old Gregory and his family.
