Endacott says his "pride" will make him want to stay |
Frank Endacott wants to stay to spearhead Widnes' fight for a Super League return if they are relegated at the end of the season. The Vikings are five points from safety with only five matches to play.
But the New Zealander says he wants to carry on at the club, even though his contract is only for the Super League.
"I've got thoughts about what needs to be done to get the club back up. Personal pride tells me I want to stay and be a part of it," he said.
"But I'm a realist, whether the club decides I should stay or go, I'll go along with it.
"You can look at it mathematically or you can look at it in reality.
"Mathematically, if we win the last five games we stay up. But in reality the way we played last Sunday then it is impossible."
Widnes may survive in the Super League if the RFL decide the club that wins the LHF National League Grand Final does not pass the strict criteria for promotion.
"It's a sad day if it comes to something like that," said Endacott.
"But it's up to us all to fight for survival."
Meanwhile, the Widnes board of directors say they will retain a full-time squad if the club is relegated.
Chairman Tony Chambers said he and his colleagues wanted to provide "the best possible chance of getting straight back into Super League".
