Johnson returns in Warrington win

Former GB star Johnson has been out of action for six months
Paul Johnson made an impressive comeback as Warrington beat Wigan 30-22 in Sunday's pre-season friendly.

The former Warriors and Bradford Bulls three-quarter has been out of action since damaging his neck back in May.

Matt King and Louis Anderson both made try-scoring debuts for Warrington, who also had Australian scrum-half Michael Monaghan making his first appearance.

"It was good prep and, all in all, a very decent day's work," said Warrington coach Paul Cullen.

"It was a great chance for the young players to get some more game time, and the new guys slotted in quite sweetly.

"We won't be making any dramas about the win, though. It was a good performance and keeps us going in the right direction."

Lee Briers scored 14 points in the game against Wigan, which doubled up as a testimonial game for the half-back.

New Zealand Test forward Anderson, playing alongside older brother Vinnie for the first time since their days with the Warriors in Auckland, was both hero and villain for the Wolves.

He scored the game's first try after five minutes but was sent to the sin bin on the stroke of half-time for flattening Wigan stand-off Trent Barrett with a late tackle.

The Warriors, who had new signing Andy Coley making his first appearance, trailed 18-0 after 27 minutes but hit back to score tries through Thomas Leuluai, Joel Tomkins, Paul Prescott and Darrell Goulding.

"It was a good 'hit-out'," said Wigan coach Brian Noble.

"We knew we were going to be heavy-legged, having just got back from a hard week's training in Lanzarote.

"We dropped a lot of ball and looked scruffy but we got some contact into us and we now have a template to work on.

"I'm really pleased with where we're at. We have five or six players to come into the team."
