Martin becomes a Wakefield coach

Aussie centre Tony Martin is in his second season at Wakefield

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats centre Tony Martin is to become assistant coach to the club's junior academy side.

The 30-year-old is one of nine Wakefield players who have recently completed their UKCC level 2 rugby league coaching certificate.

The Australian will work with head of youth performance Tony Drury.

Martin said: "This is a great opportunity to give something back to our great game. I'm excited about developing the elite junior players."

On the playing side, Martin notched up 30 points in the first four games of Super League XIV.

Wildcats player performance manager Richard Tunningley said: "The club is delighted to be able to use the services of Tony to pass on his experience as a top class Super League player to our young guys.

"Tony is keen to develop his coaching, and under the guidance of Tony Drury he has a great opportunity to do so.

"We are sure that Tony will make a major impact with the development of our junior players."

Martin has been an integral part of the Wildcats impressive start to Super League XIV, notching up 30 points in the first four games.
