Tries: Jeffries, Golden, Atkins (2)
Goals: Rooney
Hull: (14) 20
Tries: McMenemy, Briscoe, Yeaman
Goals: Tickle (4)
Jamie Rooney's three misses from four conversion attempts gifted Hull the points at Wakefield. Shayne McMenemy dislocated his shoulder scoring Hull's opener, cancelling out Ben Jeffries' first try, with Shaun Briscoe and Jason Golden also scoring.
Ned Catic set up Ryan Atkins after the restart before Kirk Yeaman scored to restore the visitors' advantage.
Anthony Thackeray knocked on with the line at his mercy before Atkins' second try, only for Rooney to miss the kick.
Wakefield coach John Kear: "I don't want to talk about Jamie's kicking. He goes out there and practices religiously so I'm not going to bag the kid.
"It's at times like this that they need a bit of support. He's beating himself up enough without anyone else jumping on the bandwagon.
"I don't think the better side won, I thought we had enough opportunities to win the game, but we'll stick together and come back from this."
Hull coach Peter Sharp: "Coaches have some input but full credit to the players.
"We've not said a lot about Paul Cooke, what's done is done. Let's get on with it.
"It was important that we toughed it out and we did that.
"It was under some adversity today. We lost two players on the rotation and we've had a difficult day so full credit to the boys."
