Scrum-half Sam Obst has agreed a two-year deal to stay with Wakefield until the end of the 2007 season. The former Sydney Rooster joined the Wildcats in 2004 after starring for Whitehaven, where he won the National League One Player of the Year award.
Head Coach Tony Smith said: "Sam has been superb for us all season.
"He has caused problems for some of the best defences in the Super League and always plays with his head up, looking for options."
Obst has spent his time alternating between the scrum-half and hooking role for the Wildcats last season.
He cemented the scrum-half role after Jamie Rooney's injury and developed an exciting partnership with Ben Jeffries, making 26 appearances this season, scoring nine tries.
