St Helens keen to retain trophy

Mick Potter

St Helens coach Mick Potter is hoping to maintain his club's formidable record in the Challenge Cup when they face Catalans Dragons on Sunday.

Saints have won the trophy for the last three seasons.

"It's a knock-out competition like no other in the world. I think it's fantastic, something special," Potter told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"It's something you want to be involved in right to the final and we want to do the same again this year."

Potter believes his side are in for a physical encounter when they entertain Catalans at Knowsley Road on Sunday.

"You play to your strengths and their strength is they have big, big players in the middle and big players on the fringe that can really bust holes in you.

"I expect them to be ramping up and running as hard as they can and they have the gift of being to offload the ball in heavy contact.

"Stopping their offloads and stopping them going forward is going to be a mountain of a task but it's something we started to work on," said Potter.

You can hear full commentary of St Helens v Catalans Dragons in the third round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup on 10 May on BBC Radio Merseyside 1485 am DAB and online at bbc.co.uk/liverpool. Kick-Off is at 1515 BST.
