Final places not safe - Flannery

St Helens' Chris Flannery says his team-mates are playing for their places in next weekend's Challenge Cup final.

The 28-year-old centre told BBC Radio Merseyside no one in coach Daniel Anderson's squad can afford to relax ahead of the Wembley showpiece.

"If you come out this week and don't turn up then it's going to be hard for Daniel to say 'here's your jersey for next week'," said Flannery.

"He'll definitely be picking the strongest side for next weekend."

Saints face Hull FC in the final and Flannery believes the battle for places in Anderson's team is partly why they are so successful.

"There's probably only a few certainties who know they're in the team, which is what makes it such a great side," he said.

Before Saints' attentions can turn to Wembley they have a match at Huddersfield Giants on Sunday.

Flannery insists Saints will not be taking their eye off the ball in Super League.

"I think no matter what you do you're always going to have Wembley in the back of your mind but we've got the trip to Huddersfield, which is going to be a hard game," added Flannery.

"We have to prepare as you would for any other game because if you do go in soft that's when you get an injury or get hurt, so we've just got to get through this game."

You can hear full commentary on Huddersfield Giants v St Helens on BBC Radio Merseyside 1485am, DAB and online at bbc.co.uk/liverpool on Sunday from 1430 BST.
