The 30-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament after just three minutes of the Saints' Super League match at Bradford on Friday.

"He will be out for five to six months, probably closer to six," said coach Daniel Anderson.

It means St Helens are now without three of their front-row players.

Jason Cayless (knee) and Maurie Fa'asavalu (broken thumb) are also sidelined while Gareth Frodsham suffered concussion at Bradford but will be fit for Sunday's visit of Wakefield.

Fa'asavalu will be out until Easter and Cayless is not expected back until the end of April.

Saints are also without and back row pair Jon Wilkin (knee) and Chris Flannery (leg), but Anderson says he is unlikely to look into the transfer market for a short-term replacement.

"I don't envisage going anywhere," he said. "We'll just have to hold the line and wait for the cavalry to come."

One piece of good news for Anderson concerns captain Paul Sculthorpe, who reported no ill-effects from his comeback against the Bulls.

The loose forward has been dogged by knee injuries over the last three years and spent nearly nine months recovering from Achilles surgery before making his return last Friday.

"He pulled up well on Saturday morning," said Anderson. "I'm expecting him to be available for Sunday."
