Sculthorpe celebrated his 30th birthday on 22 September |
Former Great Britain captain Paul Sculthorpe has signed a new contract with Super League champions St Helens. The loose forward has agreed a one-year deal, ending speculation he could be on his way out of Knowsley Road.
Twice voted Man of Steel, Sculthorpe joined Saints in 1997, when he made a 370,000 move from Warrington.
But the 30-year-old star has suffered knee and Achilles injuries in recent seasons, limiting his involvement for both club and country.
 | My recent injuries have been a very frustrating time for me and I'm grateful to everyone at St Helens for all the support they have shown. |
"I'm delighted to sign a new contract with St Helens," said Sculthorpe.
"It will be my tenth season in 2008 at the club, and I'm determined to play my part in the club's continued success.
"My rehabilitation is going very well and I know I will come back next season stronger than ever.
"My recent injuries have been a very frustrating time for me and I'm grateful to everyone at St Helens for all the support they have shown.
"I want to repay that faith, and also thank the fans who have played such a key role during my nine years at the club.
"It's the support of the fans that helps to keep you going and I wanted to stay at the club that is so close to my heart."
