Graham says St Helens are coming under pressure at the top of the table |
St Helens prop forward James Graham wants to finish a good week on a high by beating Wakefield on Sunday. Graham had a superb debut for Great Britain on Tuesday with two tries in the 46-14 victory over New Zealand.
The 20-year-old is being tipped for a place in Brian Noble's Tri-Nations squad but is playing down talk of a trip to Australia and New Zealand.
"I'm not looking any further than Sunday's game against Wakefield," Graham told BBC Sport.
The Liverpudlian, who made his first-team debut in 2003, has already made an impression down under by captaining the first England Academy side to win a series in Australia in 2004.
But he was delighted to make his first senior international appearance on his home ground of Knowsley Road earlier this week.
"When you are on the bench, you are keen to get on as soon as possible and I was looking forward to getting on and making my debut," he said.
"It was definitely tough out there. The Kiwis are a good side and we did well to get the victory.
"I think I was a bit lucky to be in the right place at the right time for the two tries. I can't remember too much about them, but once I got the ball I just focussed on getting over the line.
"But that's all over now and I just want to recover and concentrate on playing well for Saints.
"Leeds are playing well and putting pressure on us by winning, so we've got to combat that with another victory."
Graham's club and international team-mate Paul Wellens believes the experience gained by Graham and Saints winger Ade Gardner, who also scored a try in Tuesday's game, will put the club in a stronger position.
"Scoring in an international is always fantastic but the performances James and Ade put in is probably more pleasing and will be a huge boost to them," said the full-back, who won the man-of-the-match award.
"They both made some strong carries and showed the maturity and the quality they have in the game.
"Hopefully we can raise our performances again at the weekend. We stuttered a bit last week against Salford after two defeats to Hull and Bradford."
