Long says there is still plenty to come from St Helens |
Scrum-half Sean Long says the current table-topping St Helens squad is the best in his time at Knowsley Road. Saints have won all 11 of their Super League games so far to head the table by four points from Leeds Rhinos.
"I've been here nine years and this is the best squad I've been involved with at St Helens because everyone is fighting for their places," said Long.
Saints lost winger Darren Albert at the end of 2005 but have recruited Jason Cayless, Francis Meli and Leon Pryce.
"This squad is a lot stronger than last year," added Long.
"Myself personally, I've got two young half-backs in Scott Moore and Matt Smith who are challenging for my place, so I've got to perform. It's the same with all the back-rowers."
 | I think we are running at about 60% in attack and 100% in defence |
Long has warned the rest of Super League that the team are currently playing at only "60%" of their capabilities.
"We're getting the wins without playing to our full potential," said the Great Britain international.
"I think we are running at about 60% in attack and 100% in defence. Hopefully we can get better as the seasons goes on and peak at the right time.
"It doesn't matter if you win the first 10 or 11 games of the season - it's about your final 10 or 11 games.
"We've got to do that because if you win your final 10 or 11 games then you win the Grand Final."
