The former boss of suspended St Helens coach Ian Millward is tipping him to bounce back to the top of the game, whether he stays or leaves the club. Millward could learn his fate in the next 24 hours after an investigation into allegations of misbehaviour.
Former Illawarra head coach Andrew Farrar said: "I've got no doubts he'll be back. He's had some falls, but he's always bounced back.
"I don't think this is something that will put him out football."
Farrar, now assistant coach at Wigan, had Millward as his understudy at Illawarra in the 1990s.
But Farrar spotted Millward's coaching potential when he was still playing half-back for the club.
"I never played against him, but I watched him," said Farrar.
"He was pretty handy, a good organiser and very talkative, as you might expect."
When Farrar, a former Australian Test centre, was appointed as head coach at the club, Millward was promoted as his assistant.
"We used to talk a lot of football. I think one of his great qualities is that he's not scared to think outside the box and try the unorthodox.
"He's a leader in lateral thinking and one of his great assets is his confidence. The proof of the pudding is in what he has achieved since being over here."
