Jason Hooper has signed a new one-year contract with St Helens after looking destined to leave the engage Super League club just a few weeks ago. The Australian stand-off, 27, had been tipped for a move to rivals Salford because Saints had no room on their overseas quota for next season.
But Darren Albert's move to Cronulla means Hooper will now be staying put.
Prop Paul Anderson, 33, has also agreed a new one-year deal after impressing following his move from Bradford.
Paul Anderson has been rejuvenated at the Saints this year and has it in him to do the same job next year," said Saints coach Daniel Anderson.
"He will be a key member of a very strong front row for us in 2006.
"Hooper has been recuperating from a knee operation this season and we are confident that he will be back to peak condition and form in 2006 and will fulfil an important utility role for us in the team.
