Wells hopes to finish his career at Harlequins (GETTY) |
Jon Wells has committed his future to Harlequins RL after signing a new two-year deal. The winger joined Harlequins five seasons ago when the club were known as the London Broncos. The 29-year-old said: "I'm happy to commit myself to Harlequins Rugby League and to finish my career here. "They have been very good to me over the past five years, we're a family club with real ambitions and I'm glad to be a part of it." Wells has played in every season since the Super League started in 1996 and Harlequins RL head coach Brian McDermott is delighted to see him stay in London. "Jon has been the nucleus of this team for a couple of years now and every team needs a strong nucleus to be successful," he said. "We are happy that Jon has decided to stay with us for another couple of years." Wells is currently sidelined after tearing his medial ligament and is still another couple of weeks away from being fully fit. "Now I'm just looking forward to getting this brace off my leg and back onto the field to contribute again - players make very bad spectators," Wells added. "I think we all see the present as a work in progress and I'm really excited about being here when we really start to see the benefit of everyone's hard work."
