The 22-year-old, who joined the club last winter, has impressed throughout his first season in London and has recently been playing at full-back.

He was Wigan's Academy player of the year in 2006 but opted to leave the Warriors for more Super League chances.

"I think he should be proud of how he has adjusted to Super League," said Quins coach Brian McDermott.

"If he continues the way he has started life at Quins, he will have a very promising future."

Melling is likely to feature against his former club in Saturday's Super League game at the Twickenham Stoop.

He could line up alongside winger Rikki Sheriffe, who has rejoined the club from cash-strapped National League outfit Doncaster.

Sheriffe follows Joe Mbu back to London from the Lakers, who are releasing players as part of a restructure.
