Sykes was the club's leading scorer in 2005 |
Harlequins have extended the contract of injured England centre Paul Sykes for a further two years. The club's longest-serving player is ruled out for the season with kidney damage suffered in March, but is now tied to Quins until the end of 2009.
"It's a slow process of recovery and it's something I can't rush but this sure will give me even more to aim for," Sykes, 24, said.
Quins have also handed 18-year-old Londoner Tony Clubb a full-time deal.
The former London Broncos academy player burst onto the scene in the Quins' 18-18 draw at Bradford in February and has made six Super League appearances so far.
Quins coach Tony Rea is delighted Sykes, who arrived from Bradford four years ago, has committed his future to the club.
"Paul has a very bright future in the game and we're delighted that future will be here with us at least for another few years," he said.
"He'll bounce back even more determined after this year's setback because that's the type of person he is."
