Allan scored 13 tries for the reserves last season |
Leeds Rhinos have cancelled the contract of loose forward Danny Allan by mutual consent. The 20-year-old has been allowed to leave Headingley to pursue first-team rugby elsewhere. He made five appearances during the first two months of the 2009 season but has not featured since. Allan said: "It is obviously frustrating when you have world-class players in front of you that restricts your ability to play first-team rugby." He joined the Super League champions' academy from the Heworth amateur club in York and made his first-team debut in 2008 against Celtic Crusaders in the Carnegie Challenge Cup. He was contracted until the end of the 2011 season but faced competition in his chosen position from England internationals Kevin Sinfield and Danny McGuire. | We want to give Danny the best chance to fulfil his potential Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington |
"I am now free to find a new club and a new challenge," said Allan. "I would like to thank everyone at the Rhinos for the help they have given me during my career and I wish the club every success in the future." Chief executive Gary Hetherington added: "We have had a good chat with Danny and fully appreciate his frustration. "We are always keen to promote young talent and give those players the chance to play. "We take the welfare of our players very seriously and we want to give Danny the best chance to fulfil his potential. As a result we have terminated his contract to enable him to explore his options."
