Leeds braced for England call-ups

Leeds coach Brian McClennan
McClennan will turn to his youngsters for the Castleford game

Leeds will not look to postpone next week's crucial game against Castleford despite facing the prospect of losing a host of players to England duty.

The Rhinos are just two points clear at the top of Super League after losing to St Helens on Friday and are now trying to avoid a hat-trick of defeats.

But they could take on the Tigers without nine players who may play for England against France on Friday.

"We can't call it off, we're ready to move on," said coach Brian McClennan.

"We want to see our players represent their country and not have the pressure of having to back up so we'll be doing our best with the young ones."

England coach Tony Smith will name his 19-man squad on Monday.

And Leeds players Kevin Sinfield, Gareth Ellis, Danny McGuire, Rob Burrow, Keith Senior, Matt Diskin, Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Ryan Bailey are all hoping to join Jamie Peacock on the plane to Toulouse.

The Rhinos could also be without prop Nick Scruton, who is facing the threat of suspension following his dismissal for a "spear" tackle on St Helens hooker Keiron Cunningham.

A Leeds three-man tackle on Maurie Fa'asavalu has also been placed on report and if any player has a case to answer, they will join Scruton at Tuesday's disciplinary hearing.

McClennan also has an injury worry over centre or second rower Carl Ablett.

The defeat against St Helens means Leeds now have back-to-back losses for the first time in 11 months and are now trying to avoid a hat-trick of defeats for the first time in more than two years.
