Finch has made 250 appearances in the Australian NRL |
Hull KR coach Justin Morgan is hoping to pull off a major signing after talks with Melbourne stand-off Brett Finch. The 28-year-old is not expected to be given a new deal next season as the Australian NRL team cut their wage bill following a salary cap scandal. Finch has also been linked with Wigan, but Morgan said initial talks with the player and his agent had been positive. Morgan told the Hull Daily Mail: "I think he will be a hot commodity within the game, in the NRL and Super League." The Rovers coach is hopeful his relationship with Finch, which stretches back to their time playing together at Canberra, could persuade him to move to Craven Park. "We have had positive feedback from Brett directly and from his agent, but there is no timeline on anyone at the minute," Morgan said. | I think he will be a hot commodity within the game, both in the NRL and Super League Hull KR coach Justin Morgan |
"We'd like to sit down and talk a little bit more but he is in the thick of an NRL season at the moment. We have let him know about our club and why I think he will be good for it and we have left it at that." Morgan is aware a strong end to the season is vital if he is to sell his club to the former Parramatta man. "I have known Brett for a number of years as I played with him and there has always been general contact," he added. "He is a player that I like as he is a quality player, but he is one of a number of players we have looked at that could add something to our squad. "Players want to come to clubs that they enjoy working at and where they get a chance to win trophies, so a good play-off position and performance will go a long way to attracting quality players." Morgan is expected to begin his summer recruitment with a move for Hull centre Craig Hall and is also thought to be interested in former New Zealand international Motu Tony, who is now playing for Whitehaven.
