Rovers joy at Super League place

Rob Crossland
Crossland is delighted his side will stay in the Super League

Hull KR vice-chairman Rob Crossland has said he is relieved his side have been given a Super League licence.

Hull were one of 14 clubs named the top flight for the next three years by the Rugby Football League on Tuesday.

Crossland told BBC Radio Humberside: "We didn't know whether we were in or out, it was a nervous period.

"It now allows us to invest in the infrastructure and deliver the community programmes, the academy sides of things and youth development."

There's plenty of rugby league players in Hull, it's well known for that and we need to catch up with other teams on that front

Rovers are only in their second year in Rugby League's top flight after being crowned National League Champions in 2006 and Crossland believes the announcement should help the club progress.

He added: "Ten minutes after this announcement was made we will crack on with the next phase of the plan.

"It's the starting point not the end, there's a lot of work to do and a lot of serious development to ensure next time round we are in a better position again.

"There's plenty of rugby league players in Hull, it's well known for that and we need to catch up with other teams on that front, the facilities need looking at for the supporters and also importantly for the community."
