Morgan saw his side have two tries disallowed against St Helens |
Hull Kingston Rovers coach Justin Morgan has said he believes clubs in the Super League should fund the cost of having video referees in all games. Morgan's comments followed his side having two tries disallowed in their 24-18 Challenge Cup defeat to St Helens at Craven Park. "We should take [the money] out of the grants to all the clubs," Morgan told BBC Radio Humberside. "It's fifteen grand a club and all of a sudden we get video refs at all games." Shaun Briscoe and Ben Cockayne both saw tries ruled out by referee Ashley Klein in Sunday's quarter final. But Morgan says if there had been video replay technology the scores may have been allowed to stand. | They don't always get it right, the video referees, but they get it right 99% of the time Rovers coach Justin Morgan |
"My initial reaction was that they were tries but I'm not going to blame Ashley because they were tough calls and split-second decisions. "He had just one angle to look from and I think it's just another example why the RFL needs to move forward." Morgan hinted that he would get support from other Super League coaches and revealed that the topic is an ongoing discussion point within the game. "I know I'm not the only coach that's been harping on about it for months and we need to make it pure competition. "It's certainly unfair when you get four teams each weekend getting the privilege of video refs and the others get stuck with whatever decision is made on the day. "They don't always get it right, the video referees, but they get it right 99% of the time and we don't have to have a big screen. "We can just have two or three extra camera angles, one either end behind the posts, and that will get the job done."
